How do I ask a civic question?

Open Aether and tap the Ask tab (the ◎ icon in the bottom navigation). Type any civic claim, policy question, or public assertion and tap Ask Aether →. Results appear in 15–30 seconds.

Example questions:

  • “Did the Federal Reserve raise interest rates in 2023?”
  • “Has the minimum wage kept pace with inflation since 1970?”
  • “Did the Affordable Care Act reduce the uninsured rate?”
What does Aether do with my question?

Your question text is sent to the Anthropic Claude API to generate structured evidence and analysis. No personal information — no username, email, or device identifier — is attached to this request.

Aether is local-first. All audit results are stored only on your device. Aether does not store your questions on any Aether-operated server in the standard build.

How do I delete my data?

To delete all locally stored data (Profile → Settings → Delete All Local Data → Confirm):

  1. Tap the Profile tab (◣ icon, bottom right)
  2. Tap the Settings sub-tab
  3. Scroll to Delete All Local Data
  4. Tap once to see the confirmation prompt
  5. Tap Confirm Delete — Cannot Be Undone
This immediately and permanently removes all Aether data from your device. The app returns to its initial state.

If you have a server-side account in an operator-hosted deployment, email support@aether-civic.app to request deletion of your server-side account data.

Where do I find the Privacy Policy in the app?

Tap the Profile tab (◣ icon, bottom right) → Settings sub-tab. The Privacy Policy link is in the Privacy Policy card at the top of Settings.

What are the [DEMO] posts in the Agora feed?

When you first open Aether, the Agora feed is pre-populated with sample posts labeled [DEMO]. These are seeded example posts that show what the feed looks like with content. They are not real user posts.

Does Aether track me or show ads?

No. Aether does not use advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs, crash reporting, or cross-app tracking. There are no ads. App Tracking Transparency (ATT) is not triggered because Aether does not track users.

Do I need an account to use Aether?

No account is required. The Ask a Civic Question screen is the default entry — you can run audits, explore results, and use all core features without creating an account.

An audit didn’t complete or took too long. What should I do?
  • Ensure you have an active internet connection (required for the Anthropic Claude API)
  • Try a shorter or more specific question
  • Close and reopen the app, then try again
  • If the issue persists, email support@aether-civic.app with a description of the question you entered
