Privacy Policy

Short version: Aether is local-first. Your data stays on your device. The only external request is your claim text sent to the Anthropic Claude API to run civic audits — no personal identifier attached.

Who We Are

Aether is a civic question engine for exploring public claims through structured evidence and transparent analysis. This Privacy Policy explains what data Aether collects, how it is used, and your choices.

1. What Data Aether Collects

Claim Text (sent to Anthropic)

When you run an audit, Aether sends your claim text to the Anthropic Claude API to generate evidence and analysis. This is the core function of the app.

Your claim text is sent as anonymous text — no username, email address, or device identifier is attached.
Anthropic processes this data under their own Privacy Policy: anthropic.com/privacy

No other personal data is included in API calls.

Data Stored on Your Device

All other Aether data is stored only on your device in browser localStorage or equivalent local storage. This includes:

Civic questions you have asked and their audit results
Your Civic Reliability Score (CRS) profile and event history
Agora feed items and posts you have created
Stewardship actions and graph events
App preferences and session state

Aether does not transmit this data to any Aether-operated server.

Account Data (Optional Backend Deployments)

If you use an Aether deployment with a backend server and create an account, the following may be stored on that server:

This applies only to operator-hosted deployments, not the standard App Store build.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

No advertising identifiers (no IDFA, no GAID)
No device fingerprinting
No analytics or behavioral telemetry (no Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase Analytics)
No third-party tracking SDKs
No crash reporting services
No cross-app or cross-site tracking
No location data
No access to contacts or photos

3. Third-Party Services

Aether uses the Anthropic Claude API to perform civic claim analysis. When you run an audit, your claim text is sent to Anthropic. No other third-party services receive user data.

4. Data Retention

Local data is retained on your device until you delete it using the in-app deletion option or clear your device’s storage.

Server-side data (multi-user deployments only) is retained until you request account deletion. We process deletion requests promptly.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Delete Your Local Data

Profile → Settings → Delete All Local Data → Confirm

This immediately and permanently removes all locally stored Aether data from your device. The app returns to its initial state.

Delete a Server-Side Account

Email support@aether-civic.app to request deletion of any server-side account data.

Export Your Data

In deployed builds, contact support@aether-civic.app to request a copy of your account data.

6. Children’s Privacy

Aether is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (COPPA) or users under 13. Contact us if you believe a minor has provided personal information.

7. Security

We use standard security practices for data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure. Use a strong password and contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance. For significant changes, we will provide in-app notice where possible.
